( What goes wrong on Squarespace )

Code Injection is a plan feature, and the header is the only place that works

Squarespace puts custom code behind Code Injection, which is on Core, Plus, Advanced and the older Business and Commerce plans, but not Personal. The footer box exists and is useless for this: a consent script that loads at the end of the page runs after the trackers it was meant to hold. It goes in the Header, above whatever is already there.

You can see exactly what was stopped

Once the banner is live you see what people actually chose, not an estimate. Opt-in rate is a number you can take to a client.

Four steps, and the first line of the box

  2. 2Paste into the Header box, above anything already there.
  3. 3Save.
Worth knowing

Code injection is on Core, Plus, Advanced and the older Business and Commerce plans. Not on Personal.

Once it is in, scan the site again. The scan reads the page the way a browser does, so it tells you what is still reaching the network before consent rather than what should be.

( Squarespace questions )

Header or footer?

Header, always. The footer box loads after the page content, by which point any tracker in the header has already fired.

Which plans have Code Injection?

Core, Plus and Advanced, plus the older Business and Commerce plans. Personal does not have it.

Does it cover Squarespace’s own cookies?

Session and security cookies Squarespace sets to make the site work are strictly necessary and do not need consent. Analytics is a different matter, and that is held.
